Linear thinking conditions your brain
One of the biggest things I had to unlearn was linear thinking.
School conditions you to believe good thinking is sequential. Step one, step two, step three. Everything gets flattened into clean progression, as if intelligence only exists when thought stays inside the rails.
The problem is that the brain does not work like that.
Most valuable insights come from collision, not sequence. A memory connects to a conversation, which connects to a technical problem, which suddenly reframes something completely unrelated. The interesting part is not the individual idea. It is the bridge between ideas.
There is no hierarchy in the way we pretend there is when we flatten thought into linear form.
The brain behaves more like an interconnected system than a conveyor belt. Memory, intuition, abstraction, emotion, and observation constantly interfere with each other. That interference is where a lot of creativity actually comes from.
I noticed this especially with note-taking.
The more I stopped organizing knowledge like static folders and started treating ideas as nodes inside a living network, the more useful my thinking became. Notes from one domain started solving problems in another. Half-formed ideas stopped disappearing because future observations could reconnect to them later.
Knowledge stopped feeling like storage and started feeling alive.
A lot of people think they lack ideas when what they actually lack is an environment where ideas can interact long enough to evolve.
